This first edition of the full score of the Weihnachtskantilene makes this work for large ensemble once again accessible. This simple, homophonic setting in 16 movements is scored in some sections for double choir, whereby the higher choir can be performed effectively by a children's choir. Not least in importance is the moving poetry by Matthias Claudius, which helps to make Reichardt's work a rewarding and attractive enrichment to the traditional Christmas repertoire.

Deze eenvoudige, homofone instelling in 16 bewegingen wordt gescoord in een aantal secties voor dubbel koor, waarbij de hogere koor effectief kan worden uitgevoerd door een kinderkoor. Niet in het minst belangrijk is de bewegende poëzie van Matthias Claudius, die helpt om Reichardt's werk te maken van een lonende en aantrekkelijke verrijking van de traditionele kerst repertoire.
