The poem is a reminiscence, ina twilight year, over those experiences and situations that made the speaker feel ever like a child in the struggle to make sense of it all. There is also an acceptance that this struggle was the point, that one is the sum of those experiences. The text procees chronologically, but there is a blurring of the speaker's perception of past and present, reflecting the lingering sense of childhood and the vividness of the memories. Het gedicht is een herinnering, ina schemering jaar, over die ervaringen en situaties die maakte de spreker voelt ooit als een kind in de strijd om zin van dit alles. Er is ook een acceptatie dat deze strijd was het punt, dat is de som van die ervaringen. De tekst procees chronologisch, maar er is een vervaging van de perceptie van het verleden en heden van de spreker, als gevolg van de aanhoudende gevoel van de kindertijd en de levendigheid van de herinneringen.
