Hymn To The Sun is an art song for voice, accompanied by piano or classical guitar, violin, viola and cello. It is sacred, perhaps more spiritual than religious, in that it celebrates the dawn of the new day and the coming of spring, the eternal metaphor for the regeneration of the human spirit. As the earth is renewed by the light and warmth of the sun, so too the spirit is renewed by the divine wisdom and love, perceived only if we are willing to open ourselves to receive. This piece was composed in one night as part of a fund raiser for support of Mountain Top Music in Conway New Hampshire. While the full effect is achieved with all the instruments, in can be successfully performed with any one or two of the string instruments. With piano alone it would call for improvisation on the part of the pianist. Presently I can only offer a computer generated listening track. Het is heilig, misschien meer spiritueel dan religieus, in die zin dat viert het begin van de nieuwe dag en de komst van de lente, de eeuwige metafoor voor de regeneratie van de menselijke geest. Zoals de aarde wordt vernieuwd door het licht en de warmte van de zon, zo ook de geest wordt vernieuwd door de goddelijke wijsheid en liefde, alleen ervaren als we bereid zijn om ons open te ontvangen.
