Chris Massa's “Missa Brevis” is a wonderful study in contrast. As with the divergent “Kyrie” and “Gloria” texts, the two movements are stylistically different. The slow and prayerful “Kyrie” is both chant-like and fugal, with voices entering and overlapping at varying intervals. The “Gloria” is boisterous and electric with an up-tempo, mixed meter, musical dance. For Lent or memorial services, this new work is dynamic. Don't miss it.

Chris Massa's Missa Brevis is een prachtige studie in contrast. Net als bij de uiteenlopende Kyrie en Gloria teksten, de twee bewegingen zijn stilistisch verschillende. De langzame en biddende Kyrie is zowel chant-achtige en fugatische, met stemmen binnenkomen en overlappende op verschillende tijdstippen. De Gloria is onstuimig en elektrische met een up-tempo, gemengde meter, musical dance. Voor de vastentijd of herdenkingen, dit nieuwe werk is dynamisch. Mis het niet.
