An optional bell part really enhances the overall sound as the strings move seamlessly through a series of textures. The wonderful writing is very characteristic of Erik Morales and is perfect for directors looking for that "special something" for their holiday programs. This version of the famous tune Ukranian Bell Carol. or Carol of the Bells. is designed with flexibility and playability in mind. It also features an optional bell part to enhance the orchestration. Based on a Ukranian folk song entitled Shchedryk, the carol was originally sung on the eve of the new year according to the Julian calendar. January 13. The original lyrics described a bird or swallow that would fly into one's house and proclaim a bountiful year for the family. Tempo is flexible to fit the abilities of various ensembles. All eighth notes should be short and crisp unless otherwise specified with a slur marking. To enhance performance, all dynamics and bowings should be followed as closely as possible.
