To Be Sung of a Summer Night on the Water composed by Frederick Delius. 1862-1934. Arranged by Mel Orriss. For wind chamber ensemble. 3 flutes, 2 clarinets in Bb. Pick and Mix series. Grade 6 to 9. Score and parts. Published by Wonderful Winds. WN.PXD007. A pair of sublime pieces, "To be sung of a summer night on the water" were originally unaccompanied part-songs written for wordless chorus in the late spring of 1917. They was also later rearranged to form 2 Aquarelles for String Orchestra. Here they are translated for 3 flutes and 2 Clarinets. In the first movement the serene melody meanders through the lush chromatic texture, while the second is slightly more lively, featuring a jaunty folk tune.
