Bach created the cantata "Erhohtes Fleisch und Blut" by setting the sacred words to what had originally been the music of a secular cantata, presumably for the festival of Pentecost in 1727. Bach made few alterations to the musical structure, but he enlarged the original solo scoring for soprano and bass to a four-voice ensemble. Particularly notable among the solo movements is the extensive duet for soprano and bass in the form of a minuet, which in its musical language is certainly unique in Bach's cantatas. The dancelike final chorus brings the four voices together, and gives highly effective expression to the joy of Pentecost.

Bach creëerde de cantate Erhöhtes Fleisch und Blut door het instellen van de heilige woorden aan wat oorspronkelijk was de muziek van een wereldlijke cantate, vermoedelijk voor het feest van Pinksteren in 1727. Bach maakte enkele wijzigingen aan de muzikale structuur, maar hij vergroot de originele solo scoren voor sopraan en bas naar een vier-stemmig ensemble. Bijzonder opmerkelijk onder de solo bewegingen is het uitgebreide duet voor sopraan en bas in de vorm van een menuet, die in zijn muzikale taal is zeker uniek in Bachs cantates. De dansachtige slotkoor brengt de vier stemmen bij elkaar, en geeft zeer effectieve uiting om de vreugde van Pinksteren.
