Seiber arranged The Handsome Butcher from a folksong that was collected by Bartok. The body of the song concerns the striking attributes of the butcher in fanfare-like tonic-dominant structures, but there is a staccato presto sting the tail. The Hungarian composer and teacher Matyas Seiber, who spent most of his life in Britain, had a remarkably broad musical understanding. In his oeuvre can be discerned influences of Schoenberg, Bartok, jazz and, clearly in The Handsome Butcher, folksong both British and Continental.

Seiber geregeld The Handsome Slager uit een volkslied dat werd verzameld door Bartok. Het lichaam van het lied gaat over de opvallende kenmerken van de slager in fanfare-achtige tonisch-dominante structuren, maar er is een staccato presto steken de staart. De Hongaarse componist en docent Matyas Seiber, die in Groot-Brittannië het grootste deel van zijn leven, had een opmerkelijk brede muzikale inzicht. In zijn oeuvre kunnen worden onderscheiden invloeden van Schönberg, Bartok, jazz en duidelijk in The Handsome Butcher, folksong zowel Britse en Continental.
