Vous Dirai-je, Maman Piano Sheet MusicThis tune, which many of us know as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star or Baa Baa Black Sheep, is actually an old French folk tune that has been set to different lyrics and used in many different ways over the past 250+ years. Many people erroneously believeand some music history texts have actually printedthat Mozart wrote this tune for his little sister when he was only four years old. That would have been remarkable enough. But even more remarkable had it actually happened, since the tune first surfaces when Mozart wasnt even born yet! Les Plus Belles Chansons (Hachette) tells us that the tune was part of eighteenth-century harpsichordists traditional repertoire, and that Mozart popularized it with his variations. When lyrics first appeared to the tune, they were far from a childrens song; the first version tells the story of a young woman who is seduced, and the song depicts her confiding in her mother about the experience. The version that has come down through the ages to most of us, however, is the nursery rhyme version. One version of the words translates as follows: Ah!
