Composed by Heinrich Domnich. Classical Period. Piano Reduction,Set of Parts,Solo Part. 44 pages. Published by Solitarius Press (S0.16797).

Heinrich Domnich (1767-1844) was professor of horn specializing in cor basse at the Paris Conservatory from its inception in 1795 until 1817. He was a student of the famous virtuoso Giovanni Punto and became a renowned low horn player, who held positions with the French National Guard and the Paris Opera. Domnich was the teacher of many influential hornists of the nineteenth century including Louis François Dauprat, Jean-Baptiste Mengal and Eduard Constantine Lewy. Domnich wrote a Méthode de Premier et Second Cor published in 1808, which was one of the most detailed methods for hand horn and the first to discuss the history of the instrument. He also wrote 3 solo concerti for the horn and a Symphonie Concertante for 2 horns. The Symphonie Concertante pour Deux Cors was composed between 1805 and 1810. Its premier date is not known. The piece reflects Domnich’s traditional approach to horn playing with very distinct and characteristic lines for cor alto, high horn, and cor basse, low horn. Like his earlier concerti there is much in terms of technique which may be instructive when compared with discussions and exercises in the Domnich Méthode. This edition provides a piano reduction of the orchestral accompaniment. The solo parts have been transcribed preserving original articulations and some other conventions such as the use of old notation for pitches notated in bass clef. The horn parts are presented here on the same page so that the performers may easily see how the two lines interact. Roman numerals I and II are used to indicate solo passages for one player or the other.
