Written for the birth of the composer's daughter, A Birthday Lullaby became part of a longer work entitled The Nativity (for narrator and orchestra), wherein it was used for the manger scene in Bethlehem. The simple lullaby has an introduction intended to suggest a gentle rocking motion to comfort an infant as sleep approaches. It is suitable for a variety of uses, including the holiday season.
