March First is a lively and spirited first year piece. It explores different open strings staccato and left hand finger positions in an easy chromatic middle section The Ash Grove is a beautiful traditional Welsh melody in 3/4 time, challenging the performer to judicious bowing of uneven slurs and separate notes. Philip Clark is a well-known composer and arranger of educational string music. Much of his work has been published by Latham Music, now a division of Ludwig Masters.
