An expressive chant for singer(s) in a reverberant space. "Ascendit Deus in iubiliationem Dominus in voce tubae, alleluia!" "God ascends to the sound of the jubilant trumpet!"

Research tells us that Gregorian Chant might have once been sung with rhythms and expression much as pop singers use today. Here we explore this concept, which gives a fresh immediacy to this music of our ancient heritage. Who ever expected to find trumpet calls in Gregorian chant? They are here, in this chant, along with big-sky, big-space sound effects. This piece should be sung with exuberance.

Offertory: Feast of the Ascension; cf Graduale Triplex 256. Text: Psalm 47.
